Boar at half an inch, white nylon pins at three quarters — so the pins stand a quarter inch proud of the boar.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThat gap does the work. The pins reach through the section first and hold it against the barrel, which is what lets you pull real tension on a long, heavy section without it sliding off the brush. The boar sits underneath, meeting the hair second, polishing the surface once the pins have already taken the weight.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA brush with one bristle length has to compromise between those two jobs. This one does not, and on long hair — where the section is heavy and wants to slip — that is the difference between a blowout that holds and one that drops.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe cork handle\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eCork rather than lacquered wood. It is lighter, which matters when your arm is above your head for a whole head of long hair, and it does not turn slippery when your hands have product on them. Nape first, working up, and keep the dryer pointing the same way the brush is travelling — down the hair shaft, never against it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLay the section across the bristles rather than winding it tight around the barrel. Tension comes from how you pull, not from how many times you wrap, and winding long hair around a barrel is how a brush ends up tangled in it. With pins this long you do not need to wrap; they are already holding the section.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eLooking after it\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eClear the shed hair out from the base of the bristles after every few uses. Hair packs in around the roots and stops them flexing, and that is what kills a brush long before the bristles wear.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDo not soak it.
